Foundation Stage:

Nursery and Reception

The Foundation Stage curriculum is organised into six areas of learning:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Mathematical development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

The children will learn through play and creative activities. All children are encouraged to work at a level which is challenging and will enable them to reach their full potential.

 

Key Stage 1:

Year 1 and Year 2

Key Stage 1 children have daily literacy and numeracy sessions. However we ensure the children have a broad currciculum and the children will also have sessions on science, ICT, Art, Design and Technology, History, Geography, RE, PHSE, PE and Music. Our science workshops were considered very good practice by OFSTED and our themed weeks such as science and art week were considered innovative practice.

 We have a particular strength in science and were awarded a Leading Aspect Award for innovative science leading to outstanding learning for all.

 

Our curriculum aims are for the children  to:

 

·     Respect and tolerate the views of others and develop habits of self-discipline and acceptable behaviour.

 

·        Explore their thoughts, ideas and feelings through imaginative role play activities.

 

·        Express ideas and information clearly and confidently.

 

·        Listen carefully.

 

·        Choose books, to read and progress with enjoyment, fluency and expression.

 

·        Express thoughts in writing.

 

·        Understand basic concepts, develop skills and enjoy solving mathematical puzzles and problems that they encounter in real life situations.

 

·        Encourage an interest in Science and the environment by observation and experiment on life experiences.

 

·        Develop an interest and acquire skills in Information Communication Technology and to be aware of the growing importance of communication in our lives.

 

·        Develop their creative abilities in art, design, technology, music, movement, dance and drama.

 

·        Develop a knowledge and understanding of people in other places and times.

 

·        Develop and practise fine and gross motor skills, increase their understanding of how bodies work and what they need to be healthy and safe.
